Jaso

The Best 'ologists for All Kids

A life force filling the pre-op room, Jaso Isaac visits The Children’s Hospital about every 3-5 weeks to have her esophagus dilated. Her mom, Jennifer Isaac said it was the 19th time they came to Children’s for the procedure and “the most caring and best pediatric gastroenterologists”.

Jaso follows the pre-op ritual with a precision that belies her six years.

Dressed in her purple hospital gown, braids flying as she bops around and then skips over to the scale,, Jaso puts on then rips off the blood pressure cuff after it signals it is done. She then presents her pointer finger in ET-like fashion for the nurse to fasten the pulse ox monitor.

As a toddler in Liberia, Jaso swallowed lye. Her damaged esophagus was surgically repaired, but because of the repair, scar tissue increases in size which then narrows Jaso’s esophagus. Once this happens again, Jaso then has to use a GI tube to eat and drink until her next dilation. It looks like a button on her tummy.

Helping meet the hospital’s most pressing need
Your donation to The Children’s Hospital helps support programs that treat thousands of children as well as programs that care for a handful of children with rare conditions—like Jaso.

In both cases, Children’s needs the best pediatric specialists or ‘ologists here at the hospital—gastroenterologists, cardiologists, oncologists, pulmonologists, and others—to be ready to care for any child who comes for care.

A general donation means you do not designate your gift for a single program but instead allow the hospital to use your gift when and where it is most needed.
