Training
Climbing fourteeners is strenuous and involves physical exertion at altitude with less oxygen available. Physically preparing for climbing a fourteener requires several weeks of serious training to improve cardiovascular ability and endurance. Focus on workouts that increase these such as stair climber machines, treadmills set at their maximum incline setting, stair climbing all with the use of a weighted backpack to simulate the weight you’ll be carrying when hiking. Other cardiovascular activities to consider include running, swimming, and hiking.
As always, check with your physician before beginning any workout routine.
