Indigent Care Fund

The Jean L. Scotten Endowed Fund for Indigent Care

Thanks to an extraordinary estate gift of $2.6 million from an Aurora resident, The Children’s Hospital Foundation has established a new endowed fund to support medical care for economically disadvantaged children.

For about 40 percent of the children who walk through Children’s hospital doors, the hospital underwrites some or all of the costs of care. The Jean L. Scotten Endowed Fund for Indigent Care will help sustain the hospital’s current program to provide care to children around the Rocky Mountain region who need economic assistance.

Children’s is devoted exclusively to children’s health and is the only hospital uniquely equipped to deal with their illnesses or injuries, whether simple or complicated. Equipped with pediatric diagnostic and treatment facilities not generally available elsewhere, and staffed with doctors, nurses and other specialists who are specifically qualified to treat unusual pediatric disorders, The Children’s Hospital is able to serve children who would otherwise need to travel 1,200 miles to find similar specialized programs.

The patients, their families, and doctors and nurses who treat children into the future will all benefit from the Jean L. Scotten Endowed Fund for Indigent Care. The gift will ensure that more children have access to the quality care and an opportunity to grow up healthy.
