Children's Classic at Sanctuary
Join us at the 14th annual Children's Classic at Sanctuary Golf Tournament on Wednesday, June 2, at the prestigious Sanctuary Golf Course in Sedalia. This one day, single best ball tournament is a wonderful way to hit the links on gorgeous greens while raising funds and awareness for Child Health Research at The Children's Hospital. Research is at the heart of our ability to deliver the best clinical care to the kids we treat. Your participation in the Children’s Classic helps us offer better health and longer lives to children through research in all its phases – from basic science to clinical trials. Drew, 22, has benefitted directly from Children's commitment to research. As a teen, Drew came to Children's as a scoliosis patient for surgery by Children’s orthopedic specialists. During the last 30 minutes of a complex, four-hour operation to insert metal rods along his spine, doctors discovered Drew had become paralyzed. Drew was rushed to the Emergency Department, where testing and scans revealed an inoperable tumor on his brain stem. In the Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders, Children's immediately started Drew's cancer treatment. When Drew’s brain tumor did not respond to his first course of chemo, doctors offered Drew the chance to take part in a year-long experimental clinical trial. The treatment calcified the tumor in Drew’s brain, rendering it inert. Thanks to Children’s willingness to offer each patient a chance to incorporate the latest research advances into their treatment, Drew has been cancer free for more than five years, and has since gone on to live a happy and healthy life.
